I am an artist living and working in Hampshire. I studied art in Shrewsbury and Cardiff and have taught art to children and adults for over twenty years.
Currently I work part time as a freelance artist in Southampton City Art Gallery, which allows me the time to follow my passion for painting.
My inspiration comes mainly from nature; flowers, plants, changing seasons and landscapes. I love colour and how it seems to change in different settings and conditions. Flowers and leaves can take on a jewel like quality, hence my use of glitter and gold leaf.
I drive my family mad, stopping to take photos and sketch scenery that grabs my attention. Sometimes I work from memory, focussing on just one aspect of a scene or colour scheme, rather than getting side-tracked by too much detail. This allows my imagination to develop an image of its own.
I work mainly in acrylic on canvas, laying down blocks of colour on which to drip, splash, dab and brush layers of colour, pattern and shape to create stylised flowers, landscapes and seascapes. My natural leaning towards design brings ordered circles and squares to the chaos of expressive drips and splashes.
I also like to explore the use of inks and love to add some sparkle with a touch of glitter, gold and bronze leaf.
As well as embracing my love of nature and colour by producing paintings that satisfy my creative needs, I also enjoy working on commissions.
My aim is to produce beautiful, bespoke paintings to suit your home. I offer a range of styles to choose from as a starting point and will work closely with you to achieve the style, scale and colour scheme that is perfect for you.
